PRIVACY POLICY STATEMENT

The following policy applies to the Parallel Worlds, The Author Hour, and Media Fan Clubs sites ("Site" or "Sites" or "Parallel Worlds"). The Author Hour web sites include TheAuthorHour.com and other aliases. The Parallel Worlds web sites ("Site") include paraworlds.com, paraworlds.net, and all other aliases. The Media Fan Clubs sites include authorfanclubs.com and other aliases. These sites also include official alias domain names that mirror or take you to these sites, as well as any successor pages thereto, and other web sites owned and operated by Matthew Peterson. The phrases "we," "us," "our," "Parallel Worlds" and "The Author Hour" refers to Matthew Peterson. The term "Moderators" refers to one or more specific users that The Author Hour has chosen or will choose to moderate the "Forums" (message boards, chat rooms, or other public areas within, or in connection with, this Site). The terms "you," "your," "user," and "users" does not include The Author Hour but does include everyone else, as well as Moderators.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

The only required personal information we collect is a name and email address. This is required for security purposes. Other information is voluntary and may include personal messaging usernames with ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, and/or MSN Messenger, Username for the message board, location, occupation, interests, website link, and a personal footnote called a signature at the end of the user's posts. This information can be adjusted by the user through a password. We also collect IP addresses (see "USE OF IP ADDRESSES" for more information).

HOW WE USE THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We don't sell this information or give it out; however, because this information is made public or can be made public on the Forums, other users may obtain this information by themselves. By default, email addresses are hidden from others but can be made available to the public by the user through a password. The Author Hour and Parallel Worlds reserve the right to send an email to the users from time to time, but those should be infrequent and should only contain pertinent information associated with the The Author Hour and Parallel Worlds web sites, radio show, books, movies, or events.

USE OF COOKIE TECHNOLOGY

Cookies are small bits of information we send to your computer. We use cookies on the Forums for the convenience of the users. The cookies are used for automatic login, at the choice of the user. This automatic login feature can be turned off and turned on at the login screen of the message board. By default, this feature is turned off. 3rd party companies like advertisers and social media sites like YouTube might also place cookies on your computer, but Parallel Worlds and The Author Hour do not access those cookies.

USE OF IP ADDRESSES

We collect IP addresses when a user visits or logs into the Forums or Site, and when a user posts, emails, transmits or submits messages or private/personal messages (collectively "Messages"). Generally, an IP address is a number assigned to your computer by a server, router, hub, or switch and can help identify your computer on the Internet. We use this data for general statistics, better targeted banner/text ads for the country you live in, and for possible means of banning a user who has broken the rules outlined in the Terms of Use agreement.

FOR PARENTS AND USERS

We pride ourselves in our values, and we've made great effort to ensure that the webpages and Forums are clean and safe to visit. However, occasionally, an inappropriate discussion or web link may arise. We apologize for this but we do not take responsibility for Messages or any type of written or verbal communication including (but not limited to) posts, emails, or private messages of users in or out of the Forums.

We do, however, monitor the Forums in a limited fashion. We will delete inappropriate Messages, ban users, or edit or move posts according our discretion. We've given permission to certain Moderators (devoted users who have shown a willingness to help out) to ban users, make changes, move, or delete posts at their discretion. Again, we are not accountable for these Moderators or for private messages, emails, or posts by any and all users.

The Avatars, small images that appear near a user's name, have been screened so that none are pornographic. Matthew Peterson is animate about filtering out swearing and inappropriate language, and as such, automatic filters have been placed on the Forums to filter out crude language. Private messages to and from the users are not usually monitored or edited by us, so we suggest that they be monitored by the parent or guardian. Alternatively, the internal private messaging feature provided by the Site can be adjusted by the individual user so that no other users can send private messages to your account. Also, users are not allowed to embed images within the Messages in the Forums other than the ones The Author Hour provides.

We follow the Federal Trade Commission's Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) set forth in the United States of America. If a child is under 13 years old, they will need a signature from a parent or guardian before they can post Messages on the Forums. After we have received this information through fax or through writing (sorry, no emails or phone calls allowed), we will activate the child's account. After that, it will be your responsibility to monitor your child's actions. You or the child can change the personal information on the account at any time by using the password and username that was sent in the initial email. If you want the account deleted completely, please click on the email link below.

FOR KIDS

Do not give out your full name, e-mail address, home address, telephone number or any other personal information that would enable someone to contact you either online or offline, without first asking your parent or guardian for permission. If you register on the message board, and you are younger than 13 years old, you will receive an email requesting a signature from a parent or guardian before you can post a message. After we receive your permission letter, we will activate your account at our discretion. A confirmation email may or may not be sent to you when this is done. When viewing the Forums, be careful when clicking on web links posted by other users.

HOW TO CONTACT US

You can contact us if you have a specific reason pertaining to your account, the message board, website, the Terms of Use, or the Privacy Policy Statement. If you find a post on the message board that is inappropriate, please contact one of the Moderators. For anything that the Moderators can't help with--and you have a legitimate reason for contacting The Author Hour directly--it is best to contact us through email. Most of your questions can be answered in the Forums and FAQs.
